The REG system allows you to control System Activation (switching on/off) and Current Season (summer/winter) based on 4 factors:

  • Control via User Setting    

    • using the parameters Heat/Cool Enable and Current Season Set (that can also be changed via Touch Screen, Remote Control, etc.), the user can activate the system and decide its current season.

  • Programming an Annual Schedule (see ANNUAL SCHEDULE)

    • Up to 8 dates can be set: for each it is possible to program the operating mode of air conditioning (off/summer/winter) and of domestic hot water production.

    • This mode is addressed to systems in which the system operating is programmed in advance, either by the user or by an external operator.

    • For example, it is possible to create a program such as:

      • October 15: activates heating in winter mode, activates DHW production;

      • December 20: activates heating in winter mode, switch off DHW production;

      • January 10: activates heating in winter mode, activates DHW production;

      • April 15: switch off the heating system, activates DHW production;

      • July 15: activates air conditioning in summer mode, activates DHW production;

      • September 15: switch off air-conditioning system, activates DHW production;

  • Configuration of Outdoor Enable Signals (see EXTERNAL SIGNALS):

    • Up to 5 digital inputs can be set (heat and cool enable/season/summer enable/ winter enable/ DHW enable) through which it is possible to determine the operating mode via digital signals (dry contacts) coming from controls or outdoor devices (switches, heat pump, etc.).

    • This is a useful mode when you want the system to interact with other devices and to adapt automatically.

    • For example, it is possible:

      • By changing the working mode (summer/winter) on a Heat Pump, the REG System also changes its working mode.

      • Connect the system to an alarm system, so that when the alarm is set, the DHW production and/or air-conditioning is switched off.

      • The activation of the system and the working season are controlled by a third-party home automation system.

  • Control via Outdoor Temperature (see OUTDOOR TEMPERATURE)

    • It is possible to program outdoor temperature thresholds to enable the system in summer or winter mode; it is also possible to have the system automatically changes its working mode (Summer/Winter) based on outdoor temperature.

    • For example, it is possible:

      • In winter mode, switch the system off when the outdoor temperature exceeds 21°C, and switch it on again when it drops below 19°C.

      • In summer mode, switch the system off when the outdoor temperature drops below 24°C, and switch it on again when it exceeds 28°C.

      • Automatically switch the system in summer mode when the outdoor temperature rises above 28°C, and in winter mode when the outdoor temperature falls below 19°C.

These 4 elements can work individually, or they can be combined to give maximum flexibility in managing the system; it is therefore possible to manage mixed situations, such as:

  • The system is switched on/off by the user via touch screen, but the choice of season (summer/winter) is automatically based on outdoor temperature.

  • The system is switched on/off via calendar; the user can still switch the system off via touch screen bypassing the predefined annual programming.

  • The system is switched on/off and the season is decided via calendar, but it is switched off automatically if the temperature exceeds preset limits.

How factors are combined to determine system activation

For the system to be activated, these conditions must be simultaneously present:

  • The enabling parameter (Heat/Cool Enable) must be set ON.

  • If an outdoor probe is configured, the outdoor temperature must be:

    • Below a certain threshold, if in winter (default 21°C)

    • Above a certain threshold, if in summer (default 25°C)

  • If external enabling signals are defined, at least one of them must be active.

  • If the Calendar is enabled, the current date must be in of the bands programmed as active.

How factors are combined to determine the Current Season

The system season is determined by considering the various factors in this order:

1. The Annual Schedule is considered first:

  • If not enabled, or if no date is programmed, we proceed to step 2 (External Signals).

  • If we are on a date for which the working mode has been specified, the system switches to the specified working mode (summer/winter); we go directly to step 6 (Checking outside temperature).

  • If we are on a date for which the “automatic” working mode has been specified, we proceed to step 2 (External Signals).

2. External Signals are considered

  • If none of the signal season, summer enable, winter enable is configured it goes to step 3 (System type)

  • if the Season signal is configured, it is read (Off=Winter, On=Summer) and the system goes into the required working mode; it goes directly to step 6 (Outdoor temperature checking).

  • If at least one of the summer enable, winter enable signals is configured, the signal(s) is/are read and the system goes into the required working mode; it goes directly to step 6 (Outdoor temperature checking).

3. The type of system is considered (Only Winter/Only Summer/Winter+Summer):

  • if the system is “Only Winter” or “Only Summer” type, the system is placed in the permitted working mode and it goes directly to step 6 (Outdoor temperature checking).

  • If the system is of Winter+Summer type, it goes to step 4 (Season setting parameter).

4. Season setting parameter is considered, which the user can change from the app, the web, or the touch screen:

  • If set to Summer or to Winter, the system is placed in the required working mode and it goes directly to step 6 (Outdoor temperature checking).

  • if set on Automatic, it goes to step 5 (Outdoor Temperature).

5. The Outdoor temperature is considered:

  • If the outdoor probe is not configured or in error, the system goes into Winter mode.

  • If the outdoor probe detects a temperature below a certain threshold, the system goes into Winter mode.

  • If the outdoor probe detects a temperature above a certain threshold, the system goes into Summer mode.

6. At this point the season is determined; if the outdoor probe is configured, a further check is made on the Outdoor temperature check:

  • If the system is in Winter mode (determined by the previous steps), but the outdoor temperature is above a certain threshold, the system is switched off.

  • If the system is in Summer mode (determined by the previous steps), but the outdoor temperature is below a certain threshold, the system is switched off.

Note

If an invalid working mode is configured for the system via the annual schedule or via external signals (for example, if a Summer function date is programmed for a system which has been configured as Only Winter or vice versa), the system switches the system off and switches to the permitted working mode (Winter, in the example).
